Carriage Works - Rock Bottom

These Pictures where taken 13 January 2009
Nothing marks the onset of tacky in the city of San Diego than the progress from the beautiful older historic buildings to the tacky new plaques. The new plaques are on pot metal base. Rip one these suckers of a wall and take it to a disreputable recycler and let the laughter begin.

On top of these Velveta mystery cheesy product of the metal world is a wafer thin of layer of metal on which is etched a little story about the featured building. In this case the wafer has disappeared. Its been gone for at least months.

I have been looking for some information on the old Carriage Works but have found little. This building is on the L. A. Times Walking Tour.

Currently the restaurant Rock Bottom occupies the building. The Information for Rock Bottom is as follows.

Downtown Sam Minsker

This Plaque can be founde at the Pocket Park located next to the William Heath Davis House located at 410 Island Avenue, San Diego CA 92101.  Sam did walking tours from the early 1980's  to the end of the century.   They were unrouted, intimate and personal inspired from his love the city.   You can read his obituariy here and see his genological information here.   So put on your short pants, your old sneakers, and baseball cap and begin your San Diego adventure at this bench.
